De Dolle Brouwers

The name De Dolle Brouwers comes from a cycling club 'De Dolle Dravers' that consisted of a maximum of 4 members. These were the two Herteleer brothers, Dirk Coussée and Bernard Veranneman. The clubroom was a house that used to serve as a pigeon loft, later as a wash house. The cyclists not only had a ready knowledge of distances and slopes, but also of the regional beer culture: De Dolle Brouwers was born. Our first beer is the so-called Oerbier in 1980. And this after the takeover of an empty brewery in Esen at Diksmuide. This beer was created after we had first experimented at home in the wash tub, with only natural ingredients and with secondary fermentation in the bottle.
