Boon VAT Discovery Box contains four new VAT Monoblend Oude Geuzes, the VAT 16, VAT 59, VAT 93 and VAT 122. The gift box also contains a Tasting Manual with more information about the beers, as well as tips to taste, to give. You can also take tasting notes in it.
The oak barrels in our brewery each have their own history and are characterized by unique micro ora of wild yeasts. The ash Oude Geuze “VAT” is a combination of one specific wooden barrel (mono) and a minimal percentage of young Lambic (blend), which starts the refermentation in the ash. The use of Lambic from one particular oak barrel (such barrels are also called 'foeders') creates gueuzes with very idiosyncratic characteristics: wine-like, whisky-like, bone-dry or very tender. The number on the ash always refers to the barrel number. This box contains 4 such monoblend gueuzes, each different in taste. This makes it ideal as a taster pack or as a gift box. The extra 'tasting manual' explains the different beers and barrels, explains the art of pouring Gueuze and
samples and includes space to take your own tasting notes.

Where Oude Geuze Boon is made from lambic beers from different oak barrels, the VAT Monoblend is for the most part created with old lambic from the same barrel. This results in a taste experience that is as unique as the barrel itself.
Each Monoblend is identified by the combination of the word 'VAT' and a number. This code is very easy to explain: it always refers to the number of a large oak barrel – or a foeder – at Brouwerij Boon. The Monoblend consists of 90% old lambic from that specific cask. For example, the Monoblend 'VAT91' was made with old lambic from the 91st foeder of Brouwerij Boon.
By using old lambic from the same barrel, the character of that specific barrel is beautifully expressed in every Monoblend. In order to give the Monoblend its sparkle, flexibility and complexity, a little bit of young lambic is also added to the old lambic. While Oude Geuze Boon VAT44 was the very first Monoblend of Brouwerij Boon, several VAT editions have already been made.
